Compound Specific Isotope Analysis (CSIA)
The CSIA laboratory provides isotopic characterization of individual compounds. We currently offer analysis of stable carbon, chlorine and/or hydrogen isotopes for many different contaminants of concern. The isotopic data can be used to:
- Prove biodegradation is occurring
- Identify mechanisms of degradation
- Determine the rate and extent of degradation
- Establish multiple sources of contamination
Applications for CSIA include:
Chlorinated Solvents | |
Petroleum Hydrocarbons | Methane |
Fuel Oxygenates | Water |
1,4-Dioxane | Inorganic Compounds: Nitrate, Sulfate |
